A torque specification and a torque tool answer different questions. This page converts the engineering tolerance into exact limits, estimates a simple tool indication uncertainty, and then moves the acceptance boundaries inward so specification and measurement risk are not confused.

How the calculation works

Convert the specification tolerance to exact limits, estimate indicated tool uncertainty from accuracy and half-resolution, and show a conservative guard-banded acceptance range. Apply the entered plus/minus tolerance to nominal torque, add accuracy-at-reading and half a display increment for the illustrative tool uncertainty, then move each specification limit inward by that amount.
