    2. Confirm whether remote days are authorized and whether specific on-site days are mandatory.
    3. Measure complete driving and transit routes during the relevant arrival windows.

    How scenario labels can conceal bad comparisons

    Hybrid is not simply half price

    Fixed passes, parking contracts, equipment, home-office requirements, and mandated anchor days can make the cost function lumpy. This model includes only the entered daily layers, so add fixed commitments in a separate comparison when material.

    Remote cost is not remote-work value

    The field covers incremental cash, not productivity, collaboration, promotion, caregiving, isolation, data security, or workspace ergonomics. Those consequences need evidence outside this total.

    Time value can reverse the ranking

    A zero-dollar transit subsidy may still carry a long journey; a high parking fee may buy a shorter trip. Treat time valuation as a transparent sensitivity, not an objective price.

    Two policies with different constraints

    Anchor-day hybrid team

    A team must attend Tuesday and Thursday. The worker uses those eight monthly driving days and eight approved remote days, then compares the hybrid result with a transit-all policy that can serve both anchor days.

    Transit pass with no remote option

    A laboratory role requires sixteen on-site days. Hybrid is infeasible despite its low arithmetic result, so the decision narrows to drive-all versus transit-all after checking early service and equipment transport.

    Preserve the policy calendar behind each branch

    Keep employer attendance policy, eligible remote dates, route logs, current parking and fare evidence, vehicle-cost basis, remote incremental invoices, equipment and security requirements, destination arrival windows, disruption records, the workday calendar, and each time-value case. Census commuting data distinguishes travel to a workplace from working at home; retain that same location distinction in your plan.

    Limits of the three-policy model

    • Hybrid is a fixed half-driving, half-remote rule and does not model transit on hybrid on-site days.
    • Fixed vehicle ownership, transit passes, parking leases, home-office setup, taxes, and employer reimbursements are excluded unless embedded transparently in an entered daily rate.
    • Time has one linear value and does not reflect comfort, productive use, fatigue, or variability.

    Why does hybrid drive the extra day in an odd month?

    The declared policy uses the larger half for on-site attendance. If your employer assigns the extra day remotely, compare a neighboring even month or use a custom ledger.

    Can hybrid use transit instead of driving?

    Not in this model. Hybrid is intentionally defined as driving plus remote work so its scope remains auditable.

    What if remote work has no incremental cost?

    Enter zero, but still evaluate workspace, security, equipment, connectivity, and employer requirements outside the arithmetic.

    Does the lowest policy predict what I will spend?

    No. It is a deterministic total under entered attendance, costs, minutes, and location rules.

    Should fixed transit passes be added?

    Yes when material, but this page models daily transit fare. Use the cost-comparison page for a fixed-pass decision.

    Can I interpret time value as lost wages?

    Only if you have evidence that the relevant time changes paid work. Otherwise it is a personal sensitivity rate, not income.
