The session length, breaks, closing buffer, content, age, disability, work or school requirements, sleep routine, and health concerns must be set through current authoritative and person-specific guidance, not inferred from the default values.

    Arrange an already-chosen allocation into a real day

    1. Identify the person, day type, media purpose, and guidance used to choose the total active-screen allocation before opening the schedule.
    2. Set session count and duration from the actual activity rather than splitting time into cosmetically equal blocks.
    3. Choose between-session breaks for the person and task using current workplace, educational, accessibility, or qualified health guidance; the calculator supplies no universal break rule.
    4. Protect an explicit closing buffer when the household plan, work recovery, meal, conversation, or bedtime routine calls for screen-free time.
    5. Check elapsed block, overrun, weekly active hours, and finish clock; shorten or relocate the plan rather than silently borrowing from protected activities.

    DEEPER DECISION ANALYSIS

    What the schedule structure cannot decide

    A break is not automatically restorative

    Standing, changing focus, moving outdoors, continuing another device, or attending to disability-related needs have different meanings. Duration arithmetic cannot judge the quality of a break.

    Clock placement can matter more than total

    The same allocation at breakfast, during class, across a shift, at dinner, or near bedtime interacts differently with responsibilities and routines. A weekly sum removes that timing information.

    Screen categories can overlap

    Video calls, games with movement, television during meals, multiple devices, and required computer work complicate logging. Apply one explicit primary-activity rule to avoid double counting.

    Retain the chosen day type, calendar window, session start and end timestamps, device reports, manual notes for shared or background use, purpose and content category, break activity, closing-buffer purpose, overlap rule, and any age-specific, workplace, educational, accessibility, or clinician guidance. Compare several representative days before assuming the schedule is stable.

    Clinical and scheduling limitations

    • The defaults are examples and are not recommended session, break, buffer, daily, or weekly limits.
    • The model does not assess vision, sleep, pain, posture, mental health, development, attention, addiction, physical activity, or any diagnosis.
    • A fixed structure cannot represent notifications, background media, multitasking, overlapping devices, or interrupted sessions without a separate log.
    • Finish time is a same-day clock check only; next-day schedules are rejected rather than wrapped across midnight.
    • The page does not evaluate content quality, online safety, privacy, social context, educational need, or workplace compliance.

    Screen session scheduling questions

    Is ten minutes the recommended break?

    No. It is an editable example. Choose breaks for the activity and individual through relevant current guidance.

    Why are there only three breaks for four sessions?

    Breaks sit between consecutive sessions. Four sessions create three internal gaps; the closing buffer is counted separately.

    Does weekly screen time include breaks?

    No. It extends active session minutes only. Elapsed schedule time remains available in the daily ledger.

    Can this schedule treat a sleep problem?

    No. It is not a clinical tool. Persistent sleep difficulties or other symptoms require qualified assessment.

    What if the block ends after midnight?

    The calculator rejects that plan. Build separate day-specific blocks so protected time and dates remain clear.

    Should school or work screens use the same schedule?

    Not automatically. Required tasks, accommodations, safety, and workplace or school rules may need a different structure.
