Declared trip counts are summed, one-way distance is doubled for each round trip, and distance is converted independently into time and mileage cost before parking is added.

    At the defaults, each added round trip contributes 44 miles, one moving hour, and $38.80. A $0.10 change in cost per mile moves the nine-trip total by $39.60, while a five-mph reduction in average speed increases moving time without changing miles. Test route and mode alternatives rather than treating cost per mile as the only lever.

    Questions

    Does this recommend how often to see a provider?

    No. Trip counts are entered by the user and must follow provider guidance. The tool models travel implications only after a visit plan exists.

    Why use round trips?

    The model doubles a typical one-way route for each declared visit. If a trip begins or ends elsewhere, replace the assumption with an actual route group.

    Is driving time an appointment duration?

    No. It is travel only. Add waiting, appointment, administration, and recovery time in a separate schedule.

    Can public transport be modeled?

    Use a separate fare-and-duration record; per-mile vehicle costing may not fit. Mixed modes should be calculated separately and then reconciled.

    Does the mileage rate have to be official?

    No. Use a documented rate appropriate to your decision and label its scope and date. An official rate may have a tax purpose that differs from household cost.

    What if routes differ?

    Calculate route groups separately rather than relying on one typical distance. Averages can hide a long, expensive trip that controls the decision.

    Should parking be entered per visit or per stop?

    Use the unit that matches the actual charge. If one round trip includes several separately priced stops, record them as distinct trip classes.

    How are tolls handled?

    Add verified tolls to parking or maintain a separate direct-cost line. Do not increase the mileage rate without documenting what it includes.

    What does average speed represent?

    It converts route miles into travel hours; it is not a recommended driving speed. Use an observed door-to-door moving average appropriate to the route.

    When should the plan be recalculated?

    Recalculate after route, provider, visit count, travel mode, parking, or mileage-cost assumptions change. Preserve actual trip records for comparison.
