A trip budget combines fixed group charges, per-night lodging, per-person daily costs, per-person activity costs, and a contingency applied only after the named categories are totaled. Keeping those scaling rules visible prevents traveler and day counts from being applied twice.

How the calculation works

Trip total combines fixed transport with nightly lodging and per-person daily costs, then adds contingency. Convert nights to trip days, scale each category by its actual driver, sum the planned categories, apply contingency, and divide only the final total for per-person and per-day views.

The default plan covers two travelers, five nights and six trip days, with $900 transport, $180 nightly lodging, daily food and local transport, and $200 of activities per person.
