    SUBJECT FUNDAMENTALS

    What the weighted score is actually combining

    Reading hours
    Time spent previewing and engaging with the source material. It is exposure time, not proof of recall.
    Retrieval hours
    Closed-book recall, self-testing, or explaining ideas without looking at the text.
    Practice hours
    Application time such as problems, outlines, or short responses where errors can be inspected.
    Effectiveness score
    A user-entered evidence rating for one mode. Use the same rubric across modes if you want the comparison to be meaningful.
    Hour-score product
    Hours multiplied by the mode score. It is the numerator contribution before division by total hours.
    Target gap
    The composite score minus the target. A positive gap is headroom under this planning rule, not a grade.

    CALCULATION METHOD

    Weight time before interpreting quality

    H = hᵣ + hₜ + hₚW = (hᵣsᵣ + hₜsₜ + hₚsₚ) / H

    Hours are the weights. The default substitution is H = 4 + 2 + 2 = 8 hours and W = (4×78 + 2×88 + 2×84) ÷ 8 = 82.00%. The reverse check is W×H = 656 hour-score points, equal to the three ledger products 312 + 176 + 168.

    DEEP ANALYSIS

    Where the number can change meaning

    Time can dominate

    A long reading block can outweigh a short retrieval block even when retrieval has the higher evidence score. That is a property of the chosen model, not a claim that reading is more valuable.

    Ratings need a rubric

    Changing the meaning of 80% halfway through a study period makes the composite look precise while weakening its comparison. Keep the rating anchors and review date with the export.

    Inspect the next block

    Use the largest contribution and the target gap to choose a next action. If the score is low because the log contains mostly low-evidence exposure, more of the same block may not solve the issue.

    RESULT INTERPRETATION

    Read the score as an allocation signal

    A score at or above target means the entered time-and-rating model clears its threshold. It does not mean the learner mastered the material. A low score identifies a gap under the chosen rubric; it does not diagnose why the gap exists.

    Save the dated log, the three rating definitions, and the target alongside the result. The exact ledger is more informative than the rounded headline.

    Use comparable study records

    Use a single course, topic, and observation window. Support each mode rating with a trace such as a recall checklist, corrected practice set, or reading note review. If the modes use different standards, mark that limitation instead of treating the score as comparable.

    Why are hours used as the weights?

    The page answers a time-allocation question. If a syllabus assigns different formal weights, use a grade or rubric calculator instead.

    Can I enter zero hours for a mode?

    Yes. A zero mode contributes zero, but all three modes cannot be zero because there would be no denominator.

    What should an above-target score mean?

    It means the entered weighted average clears your planning threshold. It is not evidence of mastery or an official score.

    How should I choose effectiveness ratings?

    Use a repeatable rubric tied to observable checks such as recall accuracy, error correction, or explanation quality.

    Can this compare two students?

    No. Different topics, prior knowledge, and rating habits make cross-person comparison misleading.
