How the calculation works

Increase surface area by waste, divide by sheet coverage, round sheets upward, and estimate joint compound from an area rate. Increase the entered wall-and-ceiling surface by waste, divide by nominal sheet coverage, round to whole sheets, estimate compound from the entered kilograms per 100 m2 rate, and multiply sheets by unit price.

Fewer sheets do not always mean a better installation

Board length and orientation also affect joint count, handling, breakage, and finish quality.

Horizontal installation Can reduce lineal joint length on common wall heights and tie more studs together, subject to the assembly.
Vertical installation May eliminate butt joints when sheet length matches wall height and framing spacing is suitable.
Ceiling boards Require appropriate thickness, support spacing, lift planning, and often separate waste.
Openings Avoid aligning sheet joints with door and window corners when the specified installation practice discourages it.
