Interior paint quantity should be separated by surface and coating system. Walls, ceiling, and primer can have different coverage rates, prices, coat counts, and labor bases even inside the same room.

Surface split Wall and ceiling coatings are calculated independently.

Limitations and common mistakes

  • The perimeter model assumes a common wall height and does not separately measure closets, soffits, trim, doors, or cabinetry.
  • Primer labor is not separately priced; include it in the labor quote or fixed supplies when applicable.
  • Tax, moving furniture, repairs, high access, drying delays, and cleanup beyond normal scope are not separately modeled.

Frequently asked questions

Why did full primer require two gallons?

At 300 square feet per gallon, the default 387-square-foot wall area exceeds one gallon.

Should windows always be deducted?

Deduct meaningful openings, but small openings may not reduce labor because cutting-in offsets saved rolling area.

Where are trim and doors?

They are outside this wall-and-ceiling model and should be quoted separately.
