How to use

Screen temporary siding packages against a documented platform rating

Enter installed wall area and product mass only to document the completed cladding weight. Then enter the cartons actually intended for the work platform, their verified package weight, the staging footprint, the platform rating, and every other intended load carried at the same time.

  1. Use product data for siding weight and sealed-package weight; do not infer either from price or nominal coverage.
  2. Count only cartons concurrently staged on the platform, not the project purchase quantity.
  3. Enter workers, tools, equipment, debris, and other intended load together in the separate load field.
  4. Use a rating applicable to the exact platform, configuration, span, supports, and manufacturer instructions.
  5. Treat the result as an arithmetic screen for a qualified-person review, never as approval to load or use access equipment.

Calculation method

Build the temporary load before comparing it with capacity

The calculator first documents installed cladding mass. It separately calculates staged carton mass, adds all other intended platform load, and compares that total with the entered rating. A carton limit is calculated only after reserving capacity for the other intended load.

Installed-state analysis

The facade total is context, not platform demand

Installed siding weight can be useful for project records and for separate wall-system review, but it is distributed over the facade and is not added to a temporary platform merely because both values use pounds. Wall sheathing, framing, fasteners, water-resistive layers, and wind behavior require their own design basis.

Concurrent packages govern the staging calculation

Six cartons delivered to a project do not create six-carton platform demand unless all six are staged there at once. The input must describe the intended concurrent work state, including people and equipment already occupying capacity.

Detailed calculation process

Default values preserve every load layer

With 2,200 ft² installed at 0.9 lb/ft², installed cladding weight is 1,980 lb spread across the facade. Six 95 lb cartons create 570 lb of staged material. Over a 32 ft² carton footprint, that material concentration is 17.8125 lb/ft², reported only as placement context.

The temporary platform carries 570 lb of cartons plus 620 lb of workers, tools, and other intended load, for 1,190 lb total. Compared with the entered 1,400 lb rating, margin is 210 lb and utilization is 85%. After reserving 620 lb for other load, 780 lb remains for material; floor(780 ÷ 95) gives a capacity-limited maximum of 8 cartons under the entered assumptions. The unrounded numbers remain the decision basis.

Result interpretation

“Within” means only within the entered arithmetic rating

A nonnegative margin says the declared simultaneous load does not exceed the capacity value entered. It does not validate that rating, confirm the configuration, establish allowable point loading, address dynamic or wind effects, or authorize equipment use. A negative margin requires fewer staged cartons, less other load, or a different approved work method—not a larger invented capacity.

Decision analysis

Change the staging plan before changing the evidence

When utilization is high, reduce concurrent cartons, schedule smaller material lifts, relocate tools, or obtain a documented configuration with adequate capacity. Do not move workers or materials outside protected areas merely to improve the number. The qualified person and manufacturer instructions govern the actual loading plan.

Keep product technical data, carton label or scale record, delivery lot, carton count, staged footprint, worker and tool inventory, platform make and model, serial or asset identifier, rated-load documentation, platform dimensions and span, support and anchorage arrangement, scaffold class or duty information when applicable, manufacturer instructions, inspection record, competent or qualified person, weather and wind restrictions, material-lift procedure, calculation version, and the exact unrounded inputs and outputs.

Limits and exclusions

What this screen does not establish

  • No scaffold, pump-jack, mast climber, aerial lift, platform, hoist, anchorage, or wall design.
  • No component-level, bay-level, point-load, eccentric, impact, dynamic, wind, snow, ice, or debris evaluation.
  • No validation of plank span, support spacing, brackets, ties, guardrails, access, fall protection, or ground support.
  • No safe carton-handling method, lifting plan, emergency plan, inspection, or training determination.
  • No conversion of a laboratory product value into a field equipment capacity.

Worked decision cases

The same project can create different platform demand

Ground-staged delivery

Most cartons remain on a protected ground pallet and only two are raised at a time. Installed facade weight is unchanged, but temporary platform utilization falls because concurrent staged material is lower.

Upper-story production push

Extra cartons, two installers, tools, and a material hoist attachment are placed together. The carton-only subtotal looks acceptable, yet the combined intended load can exceed the documented configuration rating.

Frequently asked questions

Why is installed wall weight calculated separately?

It documents completed cladding mass, while the temporary platform carries only the loads physically placed on it.

Why include workers and tools?

Capacity applies to the simultaneous intended load, not only to material cartons.

Is staged lb/ft² the platform capacity check?

No. It describes material concentration over the entered footprint; the decision screen uses total intended pounds against the entered rating.

Can I use the maximum-carton result as permission?

No. It is arithmetic under entered values and does not evaluate point loads, configuration, or safe handling.

What if the rating is unknown?

Do not guess. Obtain applicable manufacturer or engineering documentation and qualified-person review.

Does “Within entered platform rating” mean safe?

No. It means only that the declared total does not exceed the number entered; all other equipment and safety requirements still govern.
